This song is inspired by the legendary Devil of Loftus Hall on County Wexford’s Hook Peninsula. Folklore tells of a mysterious stranger welcomed into the Hall during a violent storm.
During a game of cards, Anne Tottenham is said to have discovered a cloven hoof beneath the table, revealing their guest as the Devil. He vanished in flames, leaving Anne forever changed.
“Hell Looks Like Heaven” follows the seduction at the heart of the legend: danger arriving well dressed, well spoken and welcome at the door.
