Behind the song
Old as the forest. Old as hunger.
This song is inspired by Baba Yaga of Slavic folklore, the mysterious old woman who lives deep in the forest in a hut standing on chicken legs. Feared as a cannibal and witch yet sometimes acting as a tester or helper, she embodies the dangerous boundary between wisdom and terror. The song also draws from Vasilisa’s journey, the three riders, impossible tasks and the burning skull.
